MSc and MPhil/PhD in Epidemiology
Epidemiology is defined as the study of the distribution and determinants of health-related states or events in specified populations and the application of this study to the control of health problems.
Training
CAIHR offers the MSc and MPhil/PhD in Epidemiology in collaboration with faculty from:

Epidemiologists
- Identify risk factors and causes of disease
- Determine the extent of disease found in the community
- Describe the natural history and prognosis of disease
- Evaluate existing and new preventive and therapeutic measures and modes of health care delivery
- Provide the evidence for developing public policy and regulatory decisions relating to health problems
MSc in Epidemiology
One year, full time programme requiring 40 credit hours (with a research report) for Graduation

Entry Requirements
Candidates should be graduates in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, other health sciences, or social sciences. The undergraduate record should be distinguished and an aptitude for the study of a quantitative discipline should be demonstrated. Candidates are expected to meet any and all other all matriculation requirements of the University of the West Indies.
MPhil in Epidemiology
Modules
The MPhil is awarded on the basis of a substantial research thesis.
Entry Requirements
MPhil Applicants are expected to have an honours degree with some emphasis on their proposed research areas.
Applicants with Graduate Degrees in other disciplines [MPH, MSc Nutrition, MSc Family Medicine and MPhil (Basic or Social Sciences)] will also be considered and may be required to complete taught courses in the MSc Epidemiology Programme.
PhD in Epidemiology
Modules
The PhD is awarded on the basis of very substantial and original research.
Entry Requirements
PhD applicants should have completed a MSc or equivalent degree in Epidemiology.
Applicants with Graduate Degrees in other disciplines [MPH, MSc Nutrition, MSc Family Medicine and MPhil (Basic or Social Sciences)] will also be considered and may be required to complete taught courses in the MSc Epidemiology Programme.
