Administration
CAIHR is a combination of four Research Units, with four Directors of research and an administrative core separated according to function; the administrative core is not Unit specific but serves all the Units under CAIHR. The Senior Management Group is constituted of all professors and directors and the manager.
The Institute’s Director is the Head of Department or the Head of Administration. The Manager of the Institute is the Institute’s Director main delegate, carrying out administrative functions on his/her behalf. Both have overall responsibility for the Administrative Management of the members of staff and operations of all the Units. The Manager has direct responsibility for Budget Planning, Financial Control, Human Resource Management, Research Administration, Property Management, Communications and Procurement and Inventory Management. There is also a Head of Clinical Services who provides oversight to clinical work being done through the Sickle Cell and Tropical Metabolism Research Units in Jamaica; a Systems Analyst who provides IT support for the Jamaica based Units; and a proposed Head of Laboratory Services to provide laboratory support for all research and clinical activities of the Jamaica-based Units. The George Alleyne Chronic Disease Research Centre based in Barbados receives support from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus for Information Technology and the Director of the GA-CDRC represents the Institute Director at Campus-based Administrative Meetings as required.
