Dr Doreen Gordon
Doreen Gordon joined the Institute of Gender and Development Studies, Regional Coordinating Office, in January 2024. She brings with her over 12 years of professional experience in the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research interests focus on social stratification and inequality, gender and kinship, the body and beauty practices, health and wellbeing, climate change and social justice issues. Her strengths are in qualitative and ethnographic research, and she has a particular interest in decolonial and creative methods. She has carried out research and published on Brazil, South Africa and the Caribbean. Her book, Blackness and Social Mobility in Brazil: Contemporary Transformations, was published in March 2022 by Palgrave Macmillan.
