The UWI Open Campus, Academy of Sport, Trinidad & Tobago. Wednesday, December 19, 2018 — It was a proud moment for The UWI Open Campus on Friday, December 7, 2018, when The UWI Open Campus Trinidad & Tobago Staff Football Team celebrated its win of The UWI St. Augustine Campus’ 2018 Inter-Departmental Cup (IDC). The UWI Open Campus defeated the Department of Facilities Management (DFM) from The UWI St. Augustine Campus 3-1 in the 2018 finals held at the Administration West Field, St Augustine Campus. This is the second win for the Open Campus (OC) team, who first claimed the title in 2014.
The game played to a one-all draw through the regulation and extra time periods, resulting in a best-of-3 penalty shootout to determine the winner. “As is customary, the OC wasn’t favoured to win but, once again, we showed our OC “David vs Goliath” strength to show that the Open Campus was here to win. This was a tense moment but we felt confident as our OC players rose to the occasion and we won OC 3 – DFM 1 to raise the IDC 2018 edition challenge trophy. It was another jubilant moment for Team OC as we made the unbelievable upset and rose against all odds; it was OC's time to shine,” shared Mr. Charlton Ali, OC goalkeeper, who was also a part of the winning 2014 team.
The 2018 OCTT Staff Football team was comprised of Mr. Charlton Ali (Captain), Mr. Akeem Deare, Mr. Marc Panchu, Mr. Yadav Chaitram, Mr. Kevin Ramsoobhag, Mr. Donovan Williams, Mr. Rick Theroulde, Ms. Janessa Gordon, Mr. Roger Watts (Technical Advisor) and invitational UWI staff members Mr. Nasser Hafeez and Ms. Avalon Fraser.
Mr. Ali extended thanks on behalf of the team to the OC supporters for creating a supportive atmosphere on and off the football field and to the organizers of the IDC tournament for hosting the team.
