Through their mutual commitment to the region, The University of the West Indies (UWI), Faculty of Sport and the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have collaborated to offer a unique field based course, which introduces participants to the fundamentals of sport marketing. The Certificate Course in Sport Marketing is the first official product of the relationship between The UWI, Faculty of Sport and the Hero CPL.
The initial coursework was conducted online in July 2022, through a series of six (6) 2-hour sessions. The fieldwork has been taking place on-site with CPL marketing teams at the host venues for the 2022 tournament in St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana.
"We are delighted to welcome the interns into the CPL family to get hands-on experience of running a major sporting event to accompany the fantastic academic course in partnership with UWI. We are looking forward to them having a great experience which leads to lasting career and learning benefit" stated Chris Watson, Head of Marketing, CPL.
One of the interns in Guyana, Arheana Kowlessar, shared that "I am very grateful for this opportunity which allowed me to partake in some very interesting and fun online sessions offered by the University of West Indies. Also, I am very excited to be doing the on field work with CPL and learning the different aspects of marketing at the CPL. Overall, I couldn't be any more thankful for this opportunity which, so far, has given me loads of experience."
