Dr. Natasha Mortley
Dr. Natasha Mortley is a regionally and internationally known scholar of Caribbean migration focused on gender transformational advocacy and gender justice scholarship. Trained in Sociology, she has actively infused her work with feminist thought and gender theories.
Natasha Mortley is a Senior Research Fellow in the IGDS-RCO engaged in teaching, outreach, research projects and policy work. Her commitment to a regional development process is shaped by a gender justice lens which is evident in her teaching of feminist and gender research approaches for social development and policy, as well as through supervision and mentorship of her graduate students. Dr. Mortley's research work has focused on migration & development; diaspora studies; gender & leadership; gender & climate change; gender-based violence and Caribbean masculinities. Her publications can be found in academic journals and book chapters.
Governments, universities in many global spaces and international development organizations have engaged her expertise via regional and international dialogues on a wide range of pressing Caribbean migration issues including the intersections of migration and development; gender, human mobility and climate crisis; diaspora engagement, free movement of persons and migration policy development. Further, Dr. Mortley serves as Strategic Advisor to the Commission of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States on gender, migration and social policy.
