2019 News! 

At the Central Executive Committee meeting of March 22, 2019, it was announced that the UWI Open Campus TCI had just been officially relaunched in Providenciales. Mr. Sandeep Jagger noted that he had received commitment from over 20 alumni to help him revitalize the UWIAA TCI Chapter.

On April 9, 2019, at a meeting called by Mr. Jagger, and attended initially by Celia Davidson Francis, the Director of Alumni Relations for the UWI and Sandra Griffith-Carrington, the Open Campus Alumni Officer via ZOOM, as well as alumni in TCI. The Hon. Dr. Rufus Ewing motioned that an interim committee be formed to establish the UWIAA Turks & Caicos Chapter. As this was unanimously agreed, the following Interim Committee was put in place: 

  • President – Ms. Beverly John
  • Vice President – Colleen Parker
  • Secretary – Theresa Candianne Williams
  • Treasurer – Mr. Sandeep Jagger
  • Public Relations Officer – Hon. Dr Rufus Ewing

The Interim Committee will operate until elections are held - by April 20, 2019 the latest.  

OF NOTE: 

The Hon. Dr. Rufus Ewing is a General Surgeon with vast experience and a UWI Mona graduate, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery and later the Doctor of Medicine in General Surgery. On November 12, 2012, he became the third Premier of The Turks and Caicos Islands and served until 2016.

Mr. Sandeep Jagger holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance & Banking and is an Associate of the Institute of Certified Bankers. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Atlanta and is pursuing his PhD in Business (Entrepreneurship) with the University of Wales, Trinity Saint David (UK). He is a Certified Business Management Consultant. He successfully completed The University of West Indies, Department of Physics programme in Renewable Energy. 

The Hon. Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson is the first female Premier of the Turks & Caicos Islands. She was presented with a Legacy Award by the American Foundation of the UWI  (AFUWI) at their 22nd Annual Gala on February 27, 2019 at The Pierre Hotel in Manhattan, New York. A UWI alumna  (LLB), she previously operated the law firm Cartwright and Co., and worked as a law tutor at the TCI Community College. Her party is the People's Democratic Movement and she is the first female to have served as her party's Vice Chairman, Secretary General, National Chairman, Deputy Leader and now Leader.
