The “BBC” of The UWI: A Story of Generational Connections Across the Caribbean and Beyond
The University of the West Indies (The UWI) has a history dating back to 1948, when it began at Mona in Jamaica as a University College affiliated with the University of London. From those beginnings with 33 medical students, The UWI has grown into a regional university with five campuses: Mona in Jamaica, St Augustine in Trinidad and Tobago, Cave Hill in Barbados, Five Islands in Antigua and Barbuda, and the Global Campus.
