It usually runs for a week and coincides with the visit of the Writer-in-Residence to the campus. There are daily lunchtime readings that feature the work of writers from the St Augustine Campus community, including especially the first-year MFA students. Other local writers are also invited to attend. Campus Literature Week culminates in a gala evening of readings by the Writer-in-Residence.
Last year, 2011, our Writer-in-Residence was Shani Mootoo, and Campus Literature Week took place from 14 to 18 March.

LITERATURES IN ENGLISH (LIE) OPEN DAY

{gallery}http://www.flickr.com/photos/theuwi/sets/72157629117081665/{/gallery} The Literatures in English Section of the Department of Liberal Arts, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine hosted an Open Day for CAPE students and their teachers from secondary schools throughout Trinidad and Tobago on Friday 25th February, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Learning Resource Centre. The morning comprised educational talks, motivational and career speeches, and other activities.
This Open Day event, approved by the Ministry of Education, showcased the courses available in the BA in Literatures in English programme, exposing secondary school students to the ways in which these courses can be combined with other academic programmes and the possible career paths that a degree in Literatures in English can offer. Our aim, too, was to generate students’ interest in pursuing a higher degree in Literatures in English at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine.
