There is a particular humility in kneeling on a beach with a garbage bag. On International Coastal Cleanup Day, observed September 19, 2026, approximately forty (40) tertiary students did precisely that at Rae Town Fishing Village, and the striking shoreline had a good deal to say in return.
The cleanup was organised by National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and Jamaica Union of Tertiary Students (JUTS), in collaboration with several organisations such as Rotaract and UWISTAT through which students volunteered.
