UWIAA Florida Scholarships for Students

The UWIAA Florida Chapter offers 3 student scholarships annually.  

Please note: First year students are not eligible for these scholarships. They are awarded to Year 2 and 3 students only.

The award may not be held jointly with any other scholarship or bursary where together the value  exceeds the cost of tuition.

1. The RONALD AND MIRIAM WHITE Scholarship

Objectives: To honor the outstanding contribution of Miriam and Ronald White to the Florida Chapter of The University of the West Indies Alumni Association. To assist with the financial needs of a full-time student who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Social Sciences on the Mona Campus of The University of the West Indies.

2. THE MARGARET BARRETT SCHOLARSHIP

Margaret Barrett, Past president and current secretary of the University of the West Indies Alumni Association- FL Chapter  died October 13, 2017.  She was also the former chief administrator of Jamaica National Building Society's office in Tamarac. Margaret was very active in the community and was a stalwart of UWIAA-FL         A scholarship fund to support talented but needy UWI students has been established in her name and in her honour.  The award is available to full-time UWI  student at the Mona Campus who is a Caribbean national

3, DONAT & CECILLE GRANT ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

Mahatma Gandhi said, “The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others;” Mohammed Ali noted that, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth;” and the American author Carol Ryrie Brink wrote, “The most truly generous persons are those who give silently without hope of praise or reward.” The three quotations above can be used to describe Donat and Cecille Grant, benefactors of the Florida Chapter of the University of the West Indies Alumni Association, “DONAT & CECILLE GRANT ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP. The scholarship will provide tuition assistance for gifted needy full-time students who are Caribbean nationals pursuing an undergraduate degree on any campus at The UWI and in any faculty. Preference may be given to full time student who attended Excelsior High School.
