$2.5m donation to The UWI Mona for students in need

The Most Hon. Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party and Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party Education Fund, visited The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Mona Campus, on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 to present the institution with gifts from the Jamaica Labour Party Education Fund and the Prime Minister’s Positive Jamaica Foundation; the total value of this donation was $2.5m.

Over 36 years ago, Professor Lalor, along with then Vice Chancellor, Aston Preston, recognized the role that nuclear technology could play in the advancement of inter-disciplinary work, with inputs from Natural Science, Medical Science and the Social Sciences; this resulted in the installation of the SLOWPOKE-2 Research Reactor at ICENS (formerly the Centre for Nuclear Sciences), as the flagship of the institution.

The UWI and University of Glasgow develop free online course on history and legacy of British slavery in the Caribbean

A new free online course is being launched to investigate the history of British colonial slavery in the Caribbean, reflecting its links to racial inequalities and present-day global protests. The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and the University of Glasgow (UoG) are partnering to deliver this online course that will take participants on a 350-year journey from West Africa and the Caribbean through to the UK’s Windrush Generation and the present day.
