UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon Prize Giving Ceremony

{gallery}http://www.flickr.com/photos/theuwi/sets/72157632223569682/{/gallery} The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Sport & Physical Education Centre (SPEC) International Half-Marathon Prize Giving Ceremony took place on Wednesday 28th November 2012 at the UWI SPEC Facility, UWI St. Augustine Campus. Over TT$ 135,000.00 in prizes from various sponsors were awarded in a total of 32 categories, including specific categories for UWI students, staff and alumni, as well as physically challenged and team competitors. Major sponsors for the event included First Citizens Bank, the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, Blue Waters Products Limited, The UWI, National Lotteries Control Board, Building Maintenance Services Limited, Rhand Credit Union, Lease Operators Limited, Narine Sound Systems, Grill ‘N’ More, COLFIRE, Unit Trust Corporation, UWI Credit Union and UWI STA Alumni Association, among others.

Since its inception in 2004, the UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon has grown tremendously from 300, to over 1,000 local, regional and international athletes presently. It is the only traffic free race of its kind in the region and this year, the National Amateur Athletic Association (NAAA) officially recognised of the UWI SPEC International Half Marathon as its official half marathon championship.
