Reggae crooner Beres Hammond flipped the script on this year's UWI, Mona Graduation ceremonies, much to the delight of numerous fans in the audience.
Hammond, who was conferred with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (DLitt) at the final of four ceremonies on Saturday, November 4, did what he does best when it was his turn to address the graduating class of 2023.
Honorary Graduand Ms Rachel Manley has lauded The UWI, which is this year celebrating its 75th anniversary, for fostering and nurturing regional integration over the decades.
Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Audrey Marks, last Friday called on UWI Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, and Pro Vice-Chancellor and UWI Mona Principal Densil Williams to continue efforts to broaden student exchange initiatives between US academic institutions and The UWI.
Ambassador Marks was speaking at the first of four annual UWI, Mona Graduation Ceremonies shortly after she was conferred with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD).
Honorary graduand Professor Dale Abel did not mince words when he addressed members of The UWI’s class of 2023 last Saturday morning, urging them to be humble and to pay it forward.
He also encouraged the graduands to challenge the status quo, seek out mentorship opportunities, and “resist the temptation to be motivated solely by self-interest”.
