Athlete in Spotlight

Fedrick Dacres

The Faculty of Sport would like to make special mention of Fedrick Dacres. He is a student athlete who  represents The University of the West Indies, Mona and Jamaica both nationally and internationally in the field of  discus.

Dacres is no overnight sensation, he has worked consistently to make his name known. He shined through and through at the Commonwealth games, breaking his own national record - earning gold,  to outdistance his rivals and create a new mark of 69.68 meters. Undoubtedly from there, there was no limit on success,  as he also would later take the  IAAF Diamond League trophy and NACAC gold in Toronto, Canada.  Through his steady efforts and dedication to his craft he has earned himself  not only the Vice Chancellor’s Sportsman of the Year(2018)  title for The UWI, but also the RJR Sportsman of the year title,  2018.

An impressive athlete and model student majoring in Sociology and minoring  in Social Psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences, he strikes the balance between training for competition, focusing on his studies, and keeping up with his personal life well. He is known to be fun loving, willing, dependable, and an active resident of the Irvine Hall.

Fedrick Dacres your passion and commitment is remarkable, you have shown our students what it means to lead a life of purpose.  Keep up the good work, we salute you!
