Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) Conference 2025
The Caribbean Public Health Agency's (CARPHA) 69th Annual Health Research Conference was held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in Barbados May 7 -9, 2025 under the theme, "Mental Health: The Hidden Pandemic.
Professor Jennifer Knight-Madden received the 2025 Health Research Award and gave the featured lecture on Day 2 entitled "Sickle Cell Disease, a model of collaboration". Professor Ian Hambleton gave the featured lecture on Day 3 entitled "Sharing Data for evidence-based storytelling".
CAIHR presented CARPHA with a framed early publication from Professor John Waterlow who was a founding member of the Standing Advisory Committee for Medical Research. The Standing Advisory Committee (SAC) for Medical Research was established in 1956 in the British Caribbean. The name changed to Commonwealth Caribbean Medical Research Council (CCMRC) and then to the Caribbean Health Research Council (CHRC) before its transition in 2013 to the Caribbean Public Health Agency's (CARPHA). A member of CAIHR has always held a place on its advisory board since its inception.
