We held our 1st Annual General Meeting on 23rd January, 2025 and are excited to get you involved and networking with the graduates of the Faculty of Science & Technology.
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - 02/2025:
Dear Esteemed Alumni,
As the newly appointed President of our recently formed Faculty of Science and Technology Chapter of the UWI Alumni Association, it is both an honour and a privilege to address you. Our alumni community is a testament to the strength and excellence of our alma mater, and it is our collective responsibility to continue fostering its growth and development.
I am pleased to share with you the exciting initiatives and goals for the upcoming year, as agreed upon by our Executive Committee, and for which we actively need your input and further suggestions to ensure that these initiatives align with the needs and aspirations of our vibrant alumni network.
1. Increasing Formal Membership: thereby providing stronger support for the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).
2. Greater Participation in FST Activities: Enhanced alumni participation in FST events, such as the upcoming FST Brunch & Lyme in July 2025, to foster stronger connections and engagement within our community.
3. Internships and Participation in Student Activities: Increased alumni involvement in student activities, including internships and a mini-expo showcasing organizations likely to employ FST graduates.
In addition to these initiatives, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the objectives outlined in our Constitution:
- Advocacy: To influence the evolution and development of the Faculty and The University of the West Indies.
- Support: Serve as benefactors of the University, particularly the FST, Mona.
- Cultural Promotion: Promote the Caribbean's intellectual and cultural development while preserving its unity.
- Continuing Education: Provide opportunities for intellectual stimulation and professional growth.
- Name Recognition: Enhance the University's name recognition, regionally and internationally.
- Community Engagement: Stimulate interest and raise funds for the Faculty and University's affairs.
- Advisory Role: Offer advice on matters affecting the welfare of the Faculty and University.
Specifically, our goals include:
- Growing our membership to at least 50 members by August 2025, with a 50% annual increase thereafter.
- Sourcing donations to support the needs of the FST, benefiting current students through scholarships, infrastructure, and equipment.
- Supporting mentorship, internship, and outreach programs for FST students.
- Promoting networking and ongoing professional development in collaboration with the Faculty Office.
Together, we can achieve these goals and continue to build a strong and supportive alumni community. Your active participation and contributions are invaluable to our success. Let us work hand in hand to ensure that the Faculty of Science and Technology at Mona continues to thrive and excel.
