The UWI Museum

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Museum is a space for the university to recall its heritage and affirm its continuing relevance to the Caribbean region and beyond. It is located in the UWI Regional Headquarters Bulding, on Hermitage Road, Kingston 7, Jamaica.

The Museum's aim is to to engage with the university’s widespread audiences and to enhance learning within and without. To do this, we will collaborate with stakeholders within the university, with alumni and with the broader community.

Dr. Suzanne Francis-Brown, is the Museum's curator.

As a project of the Vice Chancellery, the museum will seek funding to underwrite:

  • infrastructural development;
  • a digital environment to engage audiences;
  • an exhibition schedule and series.

Floor Plan

Vital Stats - Our Vision

The space will eventually incorporate a permanent exhibit on the history and development of the UWI; an area for changing displays on issues relating to the Caribbean region; a screening area for scheduled showing of relevant films and other audio-visual material; and a small marketing space where visitors can purchase items related to the exhibitions.

While there is still much to be done, alumni and friends are welcome to visit, though there is not yet a fixed schedule. Generally speaking, visitors can come in between 10 – 2 on weekdays. However please call 876-977.6065 or email suzanne.francisbrown02@uwimona.edu.jm just to be sure.

Alumni Online is pleased to help UWI graduates reconnect and engage with the institution via the UWI Museum. Visit the Museum's blog at http://uwimuseum.wordpress.com ........ and plan to make a trip there soon!
