An updated Policy on the Use of Electronic Mail (2024) for the University of the West Indies, effective August 1, 2024. This university wide policy, approved at UF&GPC, aims to ensure proper usage of official email, prevent abuse, and comply with data privacy and protection laws.

The rollout of the Policy coincides with the university-wide adoption of the Microsoft 365 cloud-powered productivity platform and the transition to the UWI.EDU email addresses. These are being implemented on a phased basis by the respective Campus IT Teams.

  • Email is considered an official UWI record
  • Encouraging behavioural changes to ensure compliance with The UWI Data Protection Policy and Data Privacy statements
  • Highlighting laws and other University policies related to the use of UWI email
  • Providing guidelines for the appropriate use of UWI email and email etiquette
  • Stating the penalties for misuse of the UWI email system

This means that users University wide will be migrated to the new ‘OneUWI’ email platform—implemented on a phased basis by the respective Campus IT Teams.

Our team has developed a repository of easy-to-follow tools to guide you through the new Policy. However, we will continuously provide updates and support to ensure a smooth transition.
