Our Vision

CQ has now been redesigned, in a fresh new format, but with a commitment to retain the old tradition of rich content, and the original commitment to regionalism, established since 1949. As the new tagline for CQ reminds us, the theme is Caribbean culture and this we plan to showcase in the widest sense of the words. The dedication to exploring all aspects of the culture of the Caribbean is our utmost priority. We see CQ not as a forum for narrow single-discipline pieces, but rather for pieces which reflect the interdisciplinarity of Caribbean cultural studies; pieces which are rigorous, some based on scholarly research, but with every piece written in a clear, unfettered, accessible style, capable of being understood by well-educated people from any discipline. As such, we do not intend to compete with ourselves.

CQ will be refreshingly different from other UWI journals in that there will be a greater diversity of types of writing: academic/scholarly, pieces of general interest, public lectures, personal essays; there will be creative writing – poems, short stories – in every issue; there will be a book review section in every issue – including reviews of creative writing. We will attain and maintain a high quality of material, and all our scholarly articles will be subject to precise peer review. In this way, by maintaining a focus on Caribbean culture but encouraging a lively diversity of types of writing, CQ will carve its niche, giving itself a special place in the family of journals at UWI, and a special place in the global arena.
