The UWI Ranked 329th in the UI GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities (2014-2017)
The objective of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is to assess current conditions and policies related to Green Campus and Sustainability in universities, globally. Focus is on criteria that supports the E’s of sustainability (Environment, Economics and Equity) namely; transportation, water usage, waste management, setting & infrastructure, energy and climate change, and education.
The UWI has been invited to participate in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, an initiative of Universitas Indonesia, since 2014. Table 1 provides the scores and percentages for each category.
Overall, the University’s performance fluctuated year-to-year dependent on the number of universities participating in the ranking. In 2014, the first year UWI participated in the exercise, it was ranked in the bottom 30% and in 2017 (after four years), the University was ranked in the mid-range (top 55%). More specifically, from 2014 to 2017, the UWI’s performance improved in the categories ‘Setting and Infrastructure’, ‘Transportation’ and ‘Education’, but fell in the areas of ‘Energy and Climate Change’, ‘Waste’ and ‘Water’.
