Overview
The purpose of this programme is to build capacity among professionals in health, information and related disciplines by providing the training in public health and informatics relevant to the 21st century workforce. This flexible and accessible programme will provide the opportunity for busy professionals to undertake a tailored course of study to achieve mastery of the necessary knowledge and skills, and to demonstrate the critical thinking required for developing effective and efficient public health policies and strategies informed by ethical and prudent use of various types of health information.
Learners will also be equipped to validate and analyse health-related data and to undertake analytics-based projects.

Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health and Informatics
3 core courses (9 credits); 1 elective course (3 credits)

Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and Informatics
5 core courses (15 credits); 2 elective courses (6 credits)

MSc Public Health and Informatics
6 core courses (18 credits); 2 elective courses (6 credits); 2 projects (12 credits)

Admissions Criteria
- At least a Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 2.5 in any of the medical, nursing or health sciences, biological sciences, management sciences, health planning, information technology or an allied health or business profession.
OR - Technical and/or professional qualification(s) at the undergraduate or postgraduate level with a GPA of 2.5 awarded by an approved body recognised by the University of the West Indies and having a minimum of two (2) years’ experience.
OR - Other qualifications and at least five (5) years' experience which in the opinion of the university are of particular relevance to the programmes may be considered for special admission.
Participant selection is via a review panel.
Program Goals
- Build human resource capacity, globally and regionally in areas that require highly trained personnel to advance the digital transformation of public health and support achievement of the UN 2030 agenda.
- Facilitate the acquisition of advanced knowledge, skills, and to develop attitudes required to address the increasing demand for information technology (IT) expertise within the global health system workforce in both the private and public sectors
- Contribute to the development of graduates who are conversant with and responsive in their management of the dynamic demands of modern health systems, which increasingly rely upon robust collection, processing, storage and application of health data to inform health policy, service design and delivery, and to guide decision-making.
Program Objectives
- Equip participants with the necessary skills required to strengthen health policies and decision-making at the regional and global level through the strategic application of knowledge derived from critical analysis of the relevant theories
- Expose participants to the strategic requirements of leading modern health system organisations at the local, regional, and international levels
- Equip participants with the strategic decision-making capabilities necessary for leadership in the dynamic 21st century healthcare system
- Guide participants in the integration of principles of critical analysis, equity, ethics, and legal accountability in the advance toward achieving the UN 2030 agenda
