Hurricane France 2004

Hurricane came in on 2-3 September as a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 145mph; Although it fluctuated it reached a peak wind force of 240 km per hour on September 2 at 2 a.m. and with that force directly over the island of San Salvador and very near to Cat Island

Hurricane Floyd 1999

Hurricane Floyd reached category 4 intensity in Bahamas leading to severe damage on Abaco, Cat Island, San Salvador and Eleothera whose population lost water, electricity and telephone communications and saw their houses partially or totally destroyed. This was one of the most intense hurricanes to affect the country with winds of more than 250kms per hour. A storm surge of around 6 meters above normal tide caused flooding in many coastal communities which lead to widespread damage in the outer islands.

Hurricane Erin 1995

No deaths in Bahamas, Hurricane Force winds of 68-70 knots were recorded near Cat Island where the eyewall passed, All Bahamas islands from Mayaguana to Grand Bahamas suffered damage described as minor by the Bahamas department of Meteorology, this included structural damage, sunken boats, flooding and crop loss.
