Hurricane Irene 2011

Storm came into Bahamas as a cateogry 3 storm with winds of 90mph and progressed to a category 3. Central and southeastern regions of the islands hit hard by the storm. About 100 homes were damaged over the islands. Cat Island, Rum Cay, Crooked Island, Acklins and Mayaguana have reported millions of dollars in property damages to homes, churches and other infrastructure . New Providence and Grama Bahama largely avoided the impact of the storm. The disaster agency reported that 90 % of Lovely Bay in Acklins has been wiped out. No lives were lost .

Hurricane Wilma 2005

Hurricane registered max of 120mph. 1 death of a child in the floods/. Heavy Rain and flooding in Bahamas, large scale flooding because of storm surge leading to homes being washed away. It hit Bahamas as a Cateogy 3 hurricane. Storm surge of 10-15 mph. Grand Bahamas and Bimini received the brunt of the hurricane. Abaco, Berry Islands and New Providence received minor damage to utlility poles and trees. In Grand Bahamas more than 7000 people affected; sea surge of 15 to 20 ft affected communities in that island with electricity and tephone services affected.

Hurricane Jeanne 2004

Recovery after Hurricane Frances has not even started when the 10th named tropical cyclone of the 2004 hurricane hit the Bahamas on the 25th September. Category 3 hurricane caused damage to several homes. It hit 3 weeks after Frances. Roofs were blown off houses and flood water rose to more than 6 feet in some areas. Hurricane Jeanne impacts the north-western Bahamas, including Abaco, Andros, Berry, Bimini, Eleuthera, Exuma, Grand Bahama and New Providence islands. Most significant damage was on Abaco Islands and Grand Bahamas
