A Message from the PVC - Global Affairs

Sandrea Maynard, PVC - Global Affairs

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is today the only Caribbean university ranked among the best in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings). Our established position as a globally engaged university and a higher education leader for the advancement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, means that agencies across all sectors desiring to work within the region or access regional expertise ultimately find themselves at The UWI’s doorstep.

The UWI’s Office of Global Affairs has a significant and valuable task to coordinate the university’s countless strategic interactions with regional and global partners. These partners range from government and international development agencies including the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) to HEI networks such as the Global University Consortium and regional partners like the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF SPC) among others. We are committed to our role, within the wide One-UWI network, as the coordinator of our campuses for regional and global opportunities; the champions of internationalization and the authorised and qualified brokers for the management of partner relationships.

As The UWI pursues its mandate to advance learning, create knowledge and foster innovation for the positive transformation of the Caribbean and the wider world, the institution has successfully stimulated a reputation revolution. This started in the 2017-2022 strategic planning period and saw the function of the Office of Global Affairs become essential to the work of the institution as the institution became more globally engaged. Now, with the Revenue Revolution Phase II of the 10-year strategic plan (2022-2027) initiated, the OGA adds a renewed focus on leveraging opportunities for resource mobilization toward solutions for our regional and global challenges.

Through a broad range of memoranda of understandings, agreements, projects, and initiatives, the OGA proudly leads The UWI’s Regional and Global engagement through higher-level and  intimate community connections.

I welcome you to this virtual space, which very much like our office is dedicated to strategic connections. Here you can stay informed on how the Office of Global Affairs is:
    •    Connecting our staff and students to developmental opportunities
    •    Connecting our region for sustainable growth
    •    Connecting the world to our experts and solutions

We are grateful for you, our partners at all levels, faculty, staff and students, for engaging in the connections, by which we are securing a sustainable future for us all.

Ms. Sandrea Maynard
