Great Hurricane of 1780 Island began to field impacts and rain on the night of October 9th 1780. Described as the one of the most destructive hurricanes to have stuck Barbados and the islands of the Eastern Caribbean. The strongest buildings were affected by the wind and torn up off their foundations, all the forts were destroyed, many buildings were destroyed. Many churches, public buildings and almost every house in Bridgetown was leveled. Many of the trees were stripped of their park, meteorologists are of the opinion that this effect is produced of wind velocities of over 200 mph.Bahamas
Hurricane Earl 2016 Hurricane which hit on the 3rd August 2016 hit as a Hurricane 1 storm with winds of 80mph. Storm surge of up to 9 feet reported. No recorded deaths. Structural damage to businesses, government and private buildings and homes occurred. As a result of the storm there were fallen trees, electrical wires,Many roads and streets were blocked in San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Belize City, River Valley, Orange Walk and Belmopan. and Roofing and broken lumber, splinters and nails were strewn all over the affected cities. Flash flooding occurred in some communities along the Macal and Mopan rivers.Belize
Hurricane Richard 2010 Storm had sustained winds of 90 mph. 890 houses experienced damage, 60 % of this was in Belize City. Several of the homes impacted in Belize City and Dangriga Town are as a result of Storm Surge and resulting pooling from lack of retaining seawall structures and from poor improper drainage. Strong winds affected Belmopan and its surroundings. It is estimated that 15-20 % of homes in the Salvapan/Sand Martin/Maya Mopan/ Las Flores areas have suffered level 3 and 4 damages.
