Hurricane Ivan 2004

Hurricane Ivan, a category 3 system with sustained winds of 115mph, impacted Grenada
and its dependencies on Tuesday, September 7th, 2004, leaving a trail of damage. According to initial reports, eighty per cent (80%) of the country was reported to have been demolished with at least eighty- nine per cent (89%) of the housing stock being destroyed. Ivan left tremendous devastation in its wake.

Tropical Storm Earl 2004

Tropical Storm Earl unleashed heavy rains and violent winds in the Eastern Caribbean. In Grenada several hundred people fled their homes in low-lying areas of Grenada and moved to shelters set up in schools. Winds tore off at least 13 roofs throughout Grenada and flooding was reported in western Grenada, McIntyre said. One nursing home also was evacuated, and more than 30 residents were moved to a shelter. No injuries were reported. Additionally, 6 electrical poles were blown down, 9 landslides plus 3 rock falls occurred on the mainland.
