1897 Tropical Storm

Flooding as a result of a tropical storm. The fourth consecutive year in which destructive floods occurred in Grenada. On November 8th there were heavy rains in St. John’s, flooding the Gouyave River and once more damaging the recently erected boulder bank and again on December 6th further damaging the boulder bank and destroying the stone bridge at the mouth of the Gouyave River

1889 Flooding

Heavy Rainstorms on the 6th September 1889. Severe flooding along the West coast as a result of heavy rainstorms. The Gouyave and St. Mark’s River overflowed their banks and cause considerable damages, sweeping through the town of Gouyave and Victoria and tearing up the roads

Hurricane Maria 2017

Maria made landfall on Dominica as a Category 5 Hurricane on September 18th with estimated winds of 160MPH. The hurricane force resulted in intense storm surges, torrential downpour, overflowing raging rivers, and extremely high winds across the island. As the hurricane passed over the center of the island, Dominica was exposed to extraordinary winds for more than three hours. This was accompanied by intense rainfall, which provoked flashfloods and landslides.
