Belize enacted the Data Protection Act, 2021, which regulates the collection, use, and dissemination of personal data to protect individuals' privacy. The Act outlines 6 data protection principles, establishes legal bases for data processing, and mandates that data controllers and processors implement security measures, conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), and report breaches. It also provides for the establishment of a Data Protection Commissioner responsible for overseeing compliance.
