University Data Protection Officer – Dr. Patrick Anglin

Dr. Patrick Anglin assumed office as the University Data Protection Officer (UDPO) on August 1, 2021.

As University DPO, Dr. Anglin oversees the governance of personal data provided to and maintained by The UWI regarding previously registered, registered or prospective students, UWI personnel, staff, and third parties. Establishing this post is vital to The UWI's operations to ensure that it adheres to all appropriate data protection practices, locally, regionally, and globally, where these apply to its operations.

Dr. Anglin advises the University's leadership teams on strategic and operational data protection and compliance matters. He acts as the primary contact for data subjects and supervisory authorities and oversees adherence to the UWI Data Protection Policy and relevant privacy laws.

Starting his career at The UWI in 1996 as a Computer Programmer, Dr. Anglin has held various roles, including positions in the Office of Administration and Special Initiatives and the Office of the University Chief Information Officer. He is an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Computing at the Mona Campus and was formerly a Course Coordinator for Information Technology at the School of Continuing Studies.

Dr. Anglin holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) focusing on Innovation Systems from the University of Manchester, an MBA from The UWI Mona School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Studies from The UWI. He has significantly contributed to The UWI's information technology policy framework, drafting key documents such as The UWI Data Protection Policy 2019/2020 and the Information Security Policy.

Additionally, Dr. Anglin serves on the University Council of Jamaica's Distance Education Standards Committee and is a member of its IT Standards Committee. He has also worked with the Jamaican Ministry of National Security and Justice and prepared technical reports for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and Jamaica's Teachers' and Community Colleges.
