For 75 years, The UWI, has been serving and leading the Caribbean in tertiary education. The university is ranked #1 Caribbean university and among the top 1% of Latin America’s finest.

The UWI is also featured among the leading universities on Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, for its response to the world’s biggest concerns, including Good Health and Wellbeing, Gender Equality and Climate Action which are outlined in the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The UWI Global Campus

The Global Campus (formerly Open Campus) is one of five campuses within The UWI system. It offers online and in person classes from 42 physical sites which serve students in 17 English-speaking Caribbean countries.

The Global Campus is responsible for the management of The UWI Climate Education, Justice and Literacy Hub and will work with the university community, partner organisations and other interest groups to ensure that it meets its objectives of educating users about climate change, advocating for greater access to climate finance and action for sustainable development.

The UWI Climate Education, Justice and Literacy Hub

The UWI Climate Education, Justice and Literacy Hub is in response to the need to educate citizens and foster collective responsibility through networking and collaboration, thereby mitigating and adapting to the current challenges.

The main focus of the hub is to advance climate education, promote climate literacy, to understand the concerns about climate justice and the urgent need for significant financing for climate action in the Caribbean and other SIDS through the education of users about climate change and its impacts.

Who is the Hub for?

This hub was developed for audiences ranging from students and young people, educators, policy-makers, members of communities and associations and users with a general interest in climate change.

The hub provides knowledge products such as:

  • Fact sheets, comic books, videos and presentations.
  • Scholarly articles and technical reports produced by world renowned experts affiliated with the university and other organisations.
  • News articles and stories.
  • Information on academic programmes, short courses and Massive Open Online Courses.
  • Demonstration projects that highlight climate change mitigation, adaptation and sustainable practices.
