The Hon. Dennis Lalor, OJ

Dennis Lalor, a Chartered Insurer, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ICWI Group Limited, which he has built into one of the largest full-service financial institutions in the Caribbean with operations in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean.  Mr Lalor is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ICWI Group Ltd and its subsidiaries.

In 1971 Mr Lalor was appointed Chairman of Freemasons Association (Jamaica) Limited in which capacity he continues to serve.

1978-1982 he served as Deputy Chairman of the Jamaica Association for the Deaf and Chairman of the Lister Mair/Gilbey School for the Deaf.

1978-1989 he served as Chairman, Betting, Gaming & Lotteries Commission and the Jamaica Racing Commission.

In 1979 he was awarded the Gleaner’s Certificate of Merit for outstanding contribution to sports administration and financial developments.

In 1983 he was awarded the Prime Minister’s Medal for his contribution to business and sports.

From 1983 he has been a member of the Management Committee of the Caribbean Council and a Fellow of the Jamaican Institute of Management.

In 1988 he was appointed Chairman of The University Development & Endowment Fund.

In 1989 he was inducted into Jamaica’s Hall of Fame of Thoroughbred Racing and received the Thoroughbred Breeders Regency Award for services to the horse racing industry.

In 1990 he was appointed a member of the Privy Council of Jamaica and became of member of the Council of the University of the West Indies.  He is also a Member of the University Audit Committee.

Mr Lalor served as President of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica from 1990 – 1992 at a time when that organization played a critical role in collaborating with the Jamaican Government on its programme of liberalization of the country’s economy.

In 1993  Mr Lalor was awarded the Gleaner Special Award for Public Service and in 1994 the Government of Jamaica awarded Mr Lalor the Order of Jamaica.

In 1993 in conjunction with the CARICOM Heads of State he formed the US$50 M Caribbean Investment Fund.

In 2007 Mr Lalor was awarded the 2006 Jamaica Observer Business Leader Award  and he was inducted into The Private Sector of Jamaica Hall of Fame. He was also appointed to Chair the High Advisory Council on Justice Reform in Jamaica.

In 2008 he was appointed to the Board of Air Jamaica Limited and Chairman of the Privatization Committee.  In 2010 he was appointed Chairman of the Air Jamaica Board and in  2011 was appointed Director of Caribbean Airlines.

In 2008 he was the recipient of the Vice Chancellor’s Award and  the UWI Alumni Association Pelican Award for contribution to the development of and dedicated service to the University of the West Indies.

In 2010 he was appointed Chairman of the Casino Gaming Commission.

Mr Lalor is a Board Member of several philanthropic organizations, including the Centre on Philanthropy & Civil Society (City University of New York) and served on the Board of the Council of  the Washington based Council on Foundations and now serves in the capacity of Council Associate of the Board.  He also served as a member of the  International Board of United Way.

An accomplished polo player and former Captain of Jamaica Polo, he is  President of the Jamaica Polo Association and the Kingston Polo Club.
