Ms Yanchai (Mary) Suen is the Publications Officer of the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies, The University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica (“The UWI”). She manages the Social and Economic Studies journal and heads the Publications Section.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from The University of Hong Kong and a Graduate Diploma in Law from London, England. She was awarded a government-funded place, in recognition of her academic achievement, on the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws, The University of Hong Kong. She also has a Certificate in Offshore Finance and Administration from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (now The Chartered Governance Institute), United Kingdom.
In August 2017, Mary joined The UWI as the Editorial Officer of the West Indian Medical Journal (“WIMJ”), from one of the world’s two largest legal publishers, bringing with her over a decade of experience as an English-language editor of print and online books and publications (academic, general, professional and legal), newspapers and magazines from publishers such as LexisNexis, Hong Kong University Press, Longman (now Pearson), and South China Morning Post (Hong Kong’s oldest English-language daily newspaper).
During her four years with WIMJ, she was initially its Editorial Officer and subsequently its Editorial Officer and Acting Administrative Editor, carrying a dual role that involved editing and publishing, as well as strategic solutions/advice and execution, risk assessment and management, finance, marketing, human resources, administration, and office and staff management.
She is also a Hong Kong solicitor (non-practising), with post-qualification practice experience in commercial and corporate law, initial public offerings, corporate finance, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
Mary is originally from Hong Kong. Having lived in Hong Kong, Bermuda and London (England), she now resides in Jamaica, West Indies.
