Earthquake Event 1974, October 8

Larger un-reinforced buildings such as public buildings, churches and the West Indies Oil refinery were damaged. Land slippage in some areas like Deep Water Harbour . Severe damage to the port, government buildings, infrastructural services of roads, electricity, water and telephones.

Earthquake Event, 8th February 1843

On Wednesday, 8th February 1843, the island was visited by a most terrific and destructive Earthquake. The Antigua Weekly Register reported that St. John's as well as the entire island suffered greatly. The sugar crop was lost and there were 12 to 40 fatalities. The sea rose 1.2 meters after the earthquake in St. John's, Antigua, then sank again immediately remaining calm throughout, possibly caused by a large chunk of the rock island Redonda breaking off and falling into the sea. At English Harbour, the wharf made on reclaimed land sank.

Hurricane Irma 2017

Hurricane Irma reached its maximum intensity of 155t knots when it was located at 70 n miles east-southeast of Barbuda. It hit Barbuda as a category 5 hurricane. Barbuda received more devastation than Antigua, 95 % of buildings on Barbuda were damaged, leaving the island “barely habitable” one infant died in Barbuda. all communication systems damaged in Barbuda
