About Professor Sarah Metcalfe

Since 2003 I have worked in the School of Geography at the University of Nottingham, UK. The study of climatic and environmental change in the tropical Americas has been a long-term research interest, with a particular focus on human-environment interactions. Of particular relevance to CRRKN, I have worked on projects in Mexico, Belize, Antigua, Barbuda and Colombia. Recent/current work focuses on the impact of extreme weather/climate events (droughts and hurricanes) on indigenous farmers (and fishermen) in the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico and Belize). I lead the university's Developing Sustainable Societies Global Research Theme (GRT), which focuses on building multi- and interdisciplinary approaches to environmental problems.
