SUCCESS MARKER: SOARING IN THE RANKINGS

Since its first appearance on the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings in 2018, The UWI’s standing continues to trend upward, cementing is global reputation as a world-class, high-performing university and claiming a place at the top amongst some of the most notable and highly respected academic institutions. The THE’s annual rankings have become a standard measuring tool in the comparative performances of the best global universities.

In the ranking results for 2022, released in early September 2021, The UWI moved up an impressive 94 places. From the global field of some 30,000 universities and elite research institutes, The UWI stood in the top 1.5%, up from 3% in the prior year.

In addition to this spectacular leap upward, The UWI maintained its number one position in the Caribbean and the top 1% of the best in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Only 1,668 universities from 99 countries currently satisfied the eligibility criteria of the THE. This is up from 1,500 across 93 countries last year. The UWI’s rise is therefore within the context of a significantly expanded field of participants, which makes the performance even more impressive.

Areas of focus: social justice, climate action, health and well-being, and partnerships.
