The Most Hon. PJ Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, was awarded the title of Statesman in Residence in November 2019.
Since retiring from politics, Mr. Patterson has been active in university life, participating in UWI alumni matters and serving as patron of the Global Giving Programme. He also established The PJ Patterson Endowment Fund with a donation of US$100,000 to provide scholarships for students to spend up to a year at another UWI campus, to re-create the spirit of regional integration.
Through the University's Centre for Africa-Caribbean Advocacy, among his roles as 'Statesman in Residence', Mr. Patterson will support the strengthening and promotion of closer functional relations with the African Union; and the creation of an Africa-Brazil-Caribbean Diaspora (ABCD) Commission to give greater effect to South-South economic development strategies.
