A groundbreaking partnership between The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and the University of Glasgow (UofG) as resulted in the repatriation of a rare and valuable 170-year-old specimen of the Jamaican Giant Galliwasp. The specimen, believed to have been collected in the 1850s and thought to be extinct, was part of The Hunterian collection at UofG in Scotland, UK. The species of lizard will be returned to Jamaica, symbolizing a significant milestone in scientific research, cultural heritage preservation in the region, and repatriation as part of the Caribbean's reparatory justice.
