Hurricane Floyd 1999 Hurricane Floyd reached category 4 intensity in Bahamas leading to severe damage on Abaco, Cat Island, San Salvador and Eleothera whose population lost water, electricity and telephone communications and saw their houses partially or totally destroyed. This was one of the most intense hurricanes to affect the country with winds of more than 250kms per hour. A storm surge of around 6 meters above normal tide caused flooding in many coastal communities which lead to widespread damage in the outer islands.Bahamas
Hurricane Erin 1995 No deaths in Bahamas, Hurricane Force winds of 68-70 knots were recorded near Cat Island where the eyewall passed, All Bahamas islands from Mayaguana to Grand Bahamas suffered damage described as minor by the Bahamas department of Meteorology, this included structural damage, sunken boats, flooding and crop loss. Hurricane Andrew 1992 Category 5 storm caused damage of 250 million USD to Bahamas. One of the worst hurricanes to hit the islands in 60 years, 4 persons killed, 1700 persons left homeless of the 250,000-total population. 2 % of tourism properties (rooms, cottages and apartments) affected by physical devastation. Five schools and 800 homes destroyed. Telecommunications, transport infrastructure, water and airport and port severely damaged. Sanitation and Nassau and Freeport were untouched except for minor damage from winds and rain, as were Abacos, the Exumas, Andros Islands and San Salvador.Bahamas
