1979 June 12 Flooding Event - Flooding took place after a five-month period of above normal rainfall - Rainfall was due to a Tropical Depression - There were 42 deaths (31 from Westmoreland) - Nearly 160,000 persons were affected with up to 40,000 being left homeless and 50,000 suffering significant losses - Roads, buildings, water supply systems, bridges, agricultural crops and livestock were most affected in Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James and Trelawny - Sewerage plants and graves were washed out and there was concern that another typhoid outbreak would occurJamaica
