Hurricane Cleo 1964

As Hurricane Cleo passed south of Haiti on August 24, it veered northward momentarily, enough to move on to the southwest peninsula. The Hurricane entered land just east of the city of Les Cayes. Within a short time, the hurricane reached the slopes of the Massif de la Hotte. During the next few hours the movement of Cleo was obscure. Damage in Haiti was considerable, and 132 persons killed. The storm also led to 250 injuries and 5,000,000 USD in damage.

Hurricane Flora 1963

After leaving the Southern Windwards, hurricane Flora moved on a fairly smooth and regular track toward the southwestern Haitian peninsula gradually acquiring a more northward component. The vortex entered the Haitian south coast at Côtes-de-Fer and calms were noted at Fonds-des-Nègres and Anse-à-Veau. Winds of 102 m.p.h were noted at Côtes-de-Fer

Hurricane Katie 1955

The center of the storm crossed the coastline of Hispaniola near the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic about midnight that night. This area is thinly populated but the small border towns of Anse-a-Pitre and Pedernales were badly damaged with highest winds estimated at 115 m.p.h. On the basis of incomplete reports, total damage is estimated at between 200,000 and 300,000 USD with 7 deaths.
