The prime minister, the Honourable Dr. Timothy Harris, gave an assessment of the damages left by the Category 5 hurricane at EC$53.2 million. The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) estimates the damage on that island at approximately EC $12 million. On the island of St. Kitts, the estimate is EC$41 million. This estimate reflects damage mostly to the public sector. reports from the private sector were still being conducted. In terms of housing stock, the prime minister said that damages range from minor (loss of shingles) to significant damage, that is, the structure cannot be safely occupied without substantial repairs.
An assessment of agriculture and marine shows that damages included loss of green houses, fruit trees, animal feed, crop fencing, pig pens, equipment and hundreds of animals whose deaths were attributed to Hurricane Irma.
There was also significant damage to feeder roads. Some principal areas of damages in St. Kitts were water services, electricity, roads and quarry, residential housing; commercial housing (none reported); other government buildings; agriculture; environmental damage (coastal erosion); environmental damage (forest damage); sporting facilities; ports (SCASPA) and NEMA/Security Personnel Overtime. Damages to St. Kitts totalled to $41,173,300.
In Nevis, there were damage to social sectors (housing, environment, health, education) infrastructure (mainly jetties) and economic sectors (agriculture, tourism). Damages to Nevis totalled to $12,021,588.39.
