1898 Hurricane

Storm packing winds of 110mph from the ESE resulted in the deaths of 100 persons. The
1898 hurricane in Saint Vincent destroyed 20,000 workers houses leaving half the population homeless and three-quarters without food as inappropriately constructed buildings, limited subsistence crops and external communications were lost (Richardson, 1997 As seen in Pelling and Uitto paper).
