  • 1932 Bahamas Hurricane

    Deaths: 16
    Impact: Destructive on the island on Abaco Island, 16 persons were killed and 300 injured. At Hope Town high winds destroyed 83 homes and severely damaged 63; other public buildings were destroyed. Food supplies were low, and salt contaminated the drinking supply; Only four homes were left standing on Great Guana Cay. 12 homes were destroyed at March Harbour. On Green Turtle Cay a large storm surge affected the island leading to the graveyard and all buildings being destroyed, 6 deaths occurred, and 25 injuries reported. Winds of 150 mph recorded at Green Turtle Cay.

  • 1929 Bahamas Hurricane

    Deaths: 25 +
    Impact: Wind gusts of 120 to 140 mph were recorded; Damage to private property enormous, communication disruption, churches and shipping severely affected; vegetation stripped. After the hurricane struck Nassau flooding carried away a sea wall and houses; high tide of 12 feet on Andros, death toll of 25+ on that island. At Mangrove Cay- numerous boats destroyed or seriously damaged,

  • 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane

    Impact: The Storm approached at 120 mph, considerable damage to property and to lesser extent crops. Minimal loss to life due to extensive warnings. In Nassau, Buildings repaired after the 1926 hurricane were destroyed with this storm. 1 death of a 10-year-old girl. Hotels reported damage. In Bimini, winds of 140mph were recorded leading to damage to buildings, 95 houses and some other buildings including government buildings and churches were damaged or destroyed on Eleuthera. On Sal Salvador Island food crops were almost wiped out and there was minor damage to buildings.
