Regional public forum to hear governance issues related to The UWI takes place on April 24
On Wednesday, April 24, 2019, an independent team of high-level persons from across the region, established as the Chancellor’s Commission on Governance, will host a public forum to listen to Governance issues related The University of the West Indies (The UWI).
The forum which takes place at The UWI’s St Augustine Campus (Lecture Theatres A1-A2, Teaching and Learning Complex) from 6:00 p.m. Trinidad and Tobago time, will be a synchronized regional event, allowing interested persons from all 17 UWI territories to participate by attending either in person at St Augustine or online by live chat on UWItv [www.uwitv.org].
The forum is one of a series of engagements begun by the Commission to examine the performance of The UWI, including its management practices, features of transparency and accountability within the University system, then to make recommendations to the Chancellor. As a regional institution serving stakeholders across the Caribbean and beyond, The UWI, through the Commission is seeking contributions from a wide cross-section of staff, students, alumni, partners and other interested persons.
The Chancellor, who is the highest office-holder in The UWI, is traditionally responsible for establishing this high level committee, every 10 years, with overall duties to streamline and review the administration of The UWI. The current Commission which is chaired by former President of the Caribbean Court of Justice, Sir Charles Michael Dennis Byron includes a multidisciplinary team with expertise in law, people, finance and corporate governance.
