Open Campus Cruise 2018

About the Cruise

Join the 3rd UWI Open Campus Cruise and Learn Adventure and celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Open Campus and the 70th of The UWI. Connect with fellow Pelicans, make new friends from exotic places, experience new cultures and have FUN!

We will be cruising with Marella Cruise Line aboard the Marella Discovery 2 on their Cuban Fusion tour, departing from Montego Bay, Jamaica to The Cayman Islands, Havana Cuba, Cozumel Mexico and returning to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The Marella Discovery 2 is the sister ship to Marella Discovery and has a wide choice of exciting features offered on a larger, more contemporary style of vessel:

ONBOARD OFFERINGS

Your on-board experience will be captivating, with many amenities, including an outdoor cinema, a rock climbing wall, a mini golf course, an indoor pool and a glossy atrium. The range of bars, excellent dining scene and night-time shows enhanced by up-to-the-minute technology will delight you and best of all, the Marella Discovery 2 offers you these “All Inclusive”; so there are no additional fees.

Dining:   There are seven restaurants to choose from. The main restaurant offers full waiter service and serves up traditional dishes with a modern twist. There are eateries specialising in a particular cuisine – think succulent steak or pan-Asian fare. Beverage choices abound, whether you’re looking for a pot of tea or a flute of prosecco.  As mentioned, drinks, including prosecco and cider, and meals in a selection of restaurants are included in the cruise price. There is an additional cost to dine at the Sushi Bar, Surf n Turf and Kora La.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

We hope that you and your families/friends have decided to join us on this once in-a‐ lifetime Cruise and Learn Adventure from December 4-11, 2018 to visit some of our Caribbean neighbours in The Cayman Islands, Cuba and Mexico.  For those of you who know the region well, you will see it through new eyes. For those of you who live outside of the region, it will be a voyage full of excitement and discovery.

The Planning Committee for The UWI Open Campus ScholarShip Adventure has been moving steadily with finalising unique and exciting in-country activities for UWI Pelicans that will truly make this a Caribbean journey of a lifetime. For our on-board lecture series, we are currently working to organise the services of a regional scholar and culturalist who will bring to you exciting, informative and engaging lectures surrounding the theme:  The Rebel Roots.

For our in-country activities we will embark on a wonderful exploration of the history of The Cayman Islands.  We will be hosted by the University of Havana, Cuba and will explore some of their fascinating history while leaving plenty of time to sightseeMexico has so much to offer and we know that you will enjoy the “Pelican” activities planned as well as all that the city of Cozumel has to offer.

We encourage you to check our website at www.open.uwi.edu/adventure for all information pertaining to this Adventure and watch your email for regular updates as well.
