The School of Education at The UWI, Mona in collaboration with Operation Save Jamaica will host a professional development workshop examining Critical Literacy Practices in Urban Schools. The Workshop takes place on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the School Lecture

The School of Education at The UWI, Mona in collaboration with Operation Save Jamaica will host a professional development workshop examining Critical Literacy Practices in Urban Schools. The Workshop takes place on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the School Lecture Theatre 2, The UWI, Mona. Professor Annette Henry from the University of British Columbia will be the presenter on this occasion. 
 
The workshop covers a range of topics including: strategies to overcome the challenges of teaching urban youth; the use of standard language and Creole in the classroom; good instructional practices; creating classrooms in which students want to learn; creating a curriculum relevant to the lives of students.
