The critically acclaimed ‘Inspirational Chorale’ from the University of Arkansas, USA, will be giving a benefit performance during its one-week tour of Jamaica on Sunday, March 19 th at the University Chapel beginning at 5:00 p.m.

The Inspirational Chorale, under the direction of Dr Jeffrey Murdock, provides a forum where university students, regardless of ethnicity, can perform the various genres of black sacred music tradition. The Chorale – as an integrated part of the University of Arkansas’ music department, the academic community and the community at large – has enjoyed an illustrious reputation performing for dignitaries and heads of state. The ensemble has made appearances at national and international conferences and has undertaken international tours to Beijing, China, and Kilkenny, Ireland.

The Artistic Director, Dr. Jeffrey Allen Murdock, is internationally known as a conductor, clinician, and adjudicator. He currently serves as Associate Director of Choral Activities and Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Arkansas where he conducts the Inspirational Chorale, the Men’s Chorus, and teaches courses within the choral music education curriculum. While Dr. Murdock is an accomplished classical musician, he is also a skilled Gospel musician. He currently serves on the conducting staff of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. and has collaborated with Gospel recording artists, including Donnie McClurkin, Richard Smallwood, Mary Mary, Marvin Winans, Marvin Sapp, Lisa Knowles, and Kathy Taylor.

The forty-member Chorale will give performances throughout the island over the period March 17 – 25; however, the concert at the University Chapel on Sunday, March 19 th will be unique in that the Chorale will team with the talented University Chorale in a very entertaining package. The concert is being presented jointly by the UWI Alumni Association (Jamaica Chapter) and the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, Mona Campus, and proceeds will benefit their major outreach programmes.

Tickets may be purchased either at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts or at Alumni House, 28 West Road on the Mona Campus. The costs are $1500 regular and $500 for students with ID.
