UWI History Department Launches 'In the Fires of Hope'

{gallery}http://www.flickr.com/photos/theuwi/sets/72157629101572075/{/gallery} In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Independence in Trinidad and Tobago, the Department of History at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus will host a yearlong series of activities including essay and poetry competitions for our country’s primary and secondary school youth, a public lecture series and film showings throughout various communities in Trinidad and Tobago.

These activities will culminate in a 3 day international conference from the 13-15 September 2012 entitled “In The Fires Of Hope: 50 Years of Independence In Trinidad And Tobago,” which is designed to investigate all facets of the theme of Independence with emphasis on Trinidad and Tobago. The yearlong activities was officially launched on Thursday 26th January at UWI St. Augustine.
