Mona School of Business, University of the West Indies, (MSB, UWI) recently announced the appointment of Minna Israel as Distinguished Business Fellow, effective March 1, 2012.

In announcing her appointment, principal of the UWI, Mona campus, Professor Gordon Shirley, said: “Miss Israel will be working with the Executive Director, Professor Evan Duggan, to further accelerate the transformation of the institution into a genuinely world-class Business School.”

Among the specific activities in which Ms. Israel will be engaged are working with the Executive Director and his team on developing the executive management development component of the Programme targeted at the Business Community in the Northern Caribbean.

She will also provide advice on the expansion and strengthening of the Consultancy and Projects unit of the School; expand the offerings of the School targeted explicitly at international students, and oversee the deepening of relationships and the integration of activities between the Department of Management Studies, which is currently responsible for the Undergraduate programmes in Management, and the Mona School of Business, and in formulating the appropriate governance structures.

Another area of responsibility for Miss Israel will be fund-raising for infrastructure and Academic Chairs in the School of Business.

Miss Israel, current chairman of the Mona School of Business and former head of RBC Royal Bank Jamaica, has a distinguished career as a banker with close to 30 years experience, having worked at Scotiabank in The Bahamas and Jamaica. In November, Miss Israel was conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the UWI.

Professor Duggan said “MSB welcomes Miss Israel with open arms; she has already given unstintingly of her time and energy to increase the visibility of the School in the business community”.
